A little over a year back, I made a post Geeky Gadgets, Gizmos, and Toys on my “then current” gadget passion. Well I thought it might be time to follow up on that post and bring it up to date with my current 2010 gadget status and interest.
First let me say that I continue to “love, love, love” my Kindle. It’s the original, generation 1 reader and it still works fine and I use it every day. Kay now has the second generation Kindle II- loves it and uses it daily.

The Sonos home music distribution system is still in place and continues to be one of my favorite and often-used gadgets. The WAV (wife acceptance value) continues to be high and she is even making sounds like she might want a zone added to her office (hehe goody-goody).

We did follow through on our “Netbook” interest and indeed purchased an Acer machine, but not the Aspire One. The Keyboard and screen were just a little too small for our old eyes and fingers. We settled on the Acer 1810TZ which is classified as a sub-notebook and is slightly larger than the standard netbook. It has an 11.6″, 1024×768 display, standard sized keyboard, and runs Window 7 and weighs in at 3 pounds with the battery installed. The battery has better than acceptable life, providing 8+ hours of continuous operation. It is perfect for us older folks and is great to travel with.
I also expressed an interest in DSLRs (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras. That interest has not grown into a passion, and in-fact has lagged considerably. It is definitely on the back burner, and the flame is going out. Maybe I’ll fan it again one day.
So, surely something new is going on in my “gizmo-bent” brain – what’s next?
Currently my highest interest level is in tablet pcs – like the IPad. I’m intriqued by them and will likely have to have one when an “IPad comparable”, “Non-Apple” tablet hits the market likely later this year.
Im sure we’ll see several Windows 7 tablets this year and likely a host of Android tablets — can’t wait. I know, and I apologize – my “Apple-hate” is showing
