There are so many things you just take for granted. You grow up and your parents do things a certain way and you don’t question it, just accept it as “the way things are done”.
Let me give you an example: My mom always put the toilet paper on the holder with the paper coming off the bottom of the roll. 
No question, it’s just the way it’s done and throughout my younger life, whenever I had occasion to put a new roll of toilet paper on the holder, I always did it with the paper coming off the bottom of the roll – I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t think about it – it’s just the way things are done.
Later in life, not long after my wife and I married; I discovered that my very savvy, very intelligent wife had no clue as to how to mount a roll of toilet paper onto it’s holder. I also noticed that every time that I corrected the annoying problem by re-mounting a mis-mounted roll – it would, within days, somehow reorient itself incorrectly where the paper would be coming off the top of the roll. Obviously, the wife was continuing her errant practices, in spite of all my attempts to educate her in the proper way to mount toilet paper.
Well, here we are twenty plus years later and I admittedly have been converted. Toilet paper is mounted such that the paper comes off the top of the roll. No question, it’s just the way it’s done!
My wife works full time and we have lady who comes in weekly and helps clean the house. Often, when she finds an empty or low toilet paper holder, she puts a new roll on. It’s always put on with the paper coming off the bottom of the roll !!! What, Wow!! A flood of memories of my errant youth —– and very recently, I’ve begun to think about it: Hmmmmm? Which is better? Does one method have any advantage over the other? Hmmmm?
Now if you’ve read this, I know you’re thinking:
“With the great problems facing the world like hunger, poverty, terrorism, and the U.S. Government considering a ban on internet poker —- where does this old geek find time to worry about whether toilet paper should come off the top or bottom of the roll — Hmmmm?
